Wall Writing

Does anyone else seem to get that the internet is a filter? Or a shield between yourself and the rest of the world? In a sense you can be your true self, while still being able to manipulate who sees what, in ref to your traits, & imperfections.

Let's talk about the subject of problems:
Yes, it's probably better to confront the issue that's bothering you head on, be it a person, a situation, or a fear... and other times, it's easier to talk to strangers about it. Sometimes, and maybe this is just the writer in me, it's comforting to write your feelings &/or thoughts down somewhere where you know they'll be seen or read, but not to the point where you're put on the spot about them & have to explain yourself.

For ages folks have been writing messages & putting them in bottles to set adrift on a slow current for a fish to swallow, or for the shore traveler a half a globe away to discover.
The idea of configuring a time capsule & launching it into space, sending it hurtling towards unknown worlds for them to interpret has always been appealing to some.
There are centuries old books, packed full of poetry & literature wrought with feeling and emotion that convey the same out of the reader, to which, the authors are all dead and gone & don't have to explain themselves; some would say the desire to would have been lacking anyway.

Then there's the wall.
Walls in art galleries are strategically filled with what was at one point an artist's perspective, if they are now dead. It's hard to explain a piece of art. To convey what you were truly feeling when it was created. Often enough, the art speaks something different to the person viewing it, than it did to the artist.
There are walls in cities where graffiti litters the bricks they were built upon. Expression of self, the individual.
The walls in your home are probably plastered with photographs which have captured moments in time; memories that house specific emotions.
Some ppl write messages on the mirrored walls in their homes, allowing themselves & any guest who arrives in their life, to see the thought amid a reflection of themselves.

The internet, a shield, between you and the rest of the world: a wall.
How ironic it is that Facebook has given us all our very own wall.
A place where we can be the authors of our own life stories, choose whether or not to launch it into cyberspace for anyone to see, put our emotions in a virtual bottle and watch it float along a sea a faces, and have it reflected back to us amongst our own image.
Having the freedom to choose to explain yourself or not, but taking comfort in knowing that at least someone will see it.

I don't know why, but for some reason, that's reassuring to me.

If I wanted to talk about it, I would.
For now, I'll write on my Facebook wall, reminding you, that the wall is just simply that, a wall, the shield between you & me, powered by this lovely thing we call the internet.
